Carolina Forest
Carolina Forest is an approximate 12,000-acre land tract that is pre-planned, and provides a fixed 20-year development plan, which has been pre-approved by Horry County . This means that for the first time in county history, a huge tract of land will be developed in an orderly, structured manner. It assures that necessary infrastructure and public services are prepared in advance. Residents will know in advance where commercial growth will take place, where parks, schools, fire departments, churches and offices will be located. All 12,000 acres will provide roadways, without commercial signage.
The Developer, International Paper, Expects That:
An approximate 1500 foot wide Greenway, which passes through the entire tract, has been left which is intended to let the wildlife move freely within a defined protected area.
Eleven miles of roadway are now open and more is to be constructed in the near future.
Carolina Forest currently has an elementary, middle and high school and they are among the top rated in the county. The new Ocean Bays Elementary and Ocean Bays Middle schools are expected to open for the 2006 – 2007 school year.
There is currently one fire station and more are proposed to be located in such a way that emergency response will be provided to any place in Carolina Forest , within minutes.
Four golf courses, Man O’ War, River Oaks, The Wizard and The International World Tour are in Carolina Forest for the avid golfer.
The Kroger Plaza is located at the entrance to Carolina Forest at Hwy 501. Its anchor is a 65,000 square foot Kroger food store, along with Blockbuster Video, Firehouse Subs, a Deli and Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Bojangles, Handley’s English Pub & Grub, Chinese and Mexican restaurants, Dollar Tree, Florist, Tan and Nail Salon, three banks, medical complex, health club, day care, pharmacy, post office and dance/karate schools.
